In Loving Memory of Lucille Dodson Boge

Lucille Dodson Boge, affectionately known as "Lucy," passed away on September 14, 2023, at the age of 83. Born Agnes Lucille Dodson on January 27, 1940, in West Virginia to her parents, Charles William Dodson and Doris Snyder Dodson. Lucy was the oldest of five children, with brothers Charles "Buck" Dodson, John "Jack" Dodson, Robert Dodson, and Larry Dodson. Her father's untimely passing when she was just 12 years old marked a significant chapter in her life, and she was also deeply saddened by her mother's passing in 2006.

After completing high school, Lucy embarked on a new journey by moving to Alexandria, Virginia. There, she pursued higher education at Benjamin Franklin University, paving the way for a fulfilling career as a bookkeeper. During her time in Alexandria, she met the love of her life, Walter Boge, and their love story blossomed. Lucy and Walter's union was blessed with three wonderful sons: William, Matthew, and Christopher.

Lucy cherished her role as a mother and later as a grandmother. William, her eldest son, married Libby, and together they blessed Lucy with two cherished grandchildren, Jacob and Laurie. Matthew, her second son, married Ryan, and they added two more precious grandchildren, August and Alex, to Lucy's life. She was overjoyed to have a great-granddaughter named Olive, whose presence brought immense joy to her.

Throughout their lives, Walt and Lucy forged deep and lasting friendships, many of which began in their beloved community on Kenley Court in Alexandria. These friendships endured the test of time and remained steadfast until Lucy's passing. They both shared a passion for the Washington Redskins and were proud season ticket holders, attending countless games together.

Walt and Lucy embarked on a new adventure by relocating to Ocean Pines, Maryland, where they enjoyed their well-deserved retirement by the water's edge. Sadly, Walter passed away five years ago, leaving Lucy with cherished memories of their life together. She moved to North Carolina to be closer to her son Matthew, daughter-in-law Ryan, and their children.

Lucy was a beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her brothers Robert and Larry preceded her in death, but the bonds of family and friendship were never broken. Lucy was a warm-hearted and kind soul, always ready with a generous spirit and a forgiving heart.

As an avid reader, Lucy would lose herself in the pages of countless books, and her love for crossword puzzles and bridge was well-known among her friends and family.

Lucille Dodson Boge touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered as a woman of grace and warmth.

A celebration of Lucy's life will be held on October 28th in Raleigh, North Carolina and she will be laid to rest together with her husband at a future date in Weston, WV. In her memory, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a charity of your choice.

Rest in peace, dear Lucy.
