April 12, 2024

Mark E. Regonini, 67, entered the halls of Sto’Vo’Kor on April 12, 2024, following a brief but brutal battle with gastric cancer.

Mark was born February 28, 1957 in Hudson, MA to Bernard “Buddy” Regonini and Veronica Clifford, both of whom preceded him in death. His stepfather, Paul Fonteyne, also predeceased him.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, SuEllen (Rader) Regonini of Evington VA. He is also survived by his siblings, Carrie (Ted) Finney, Amherst VA; Brett (Brenda) Fonteyne, Sumter SC; Douglas (Jennifer) Fonteyne, Madison Heights VA; David (Kelly) Fonteyne, Concord NH, as well as 14 nieces and nephews, and a growing number of grandnieces and grandnephews. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Elaine (Inbody) Rader, Lynchburg VA.

Mark was a 1975 graduate of Boca Ciega High School, Gulfport FL, and held degrees from St. Petersburg College and National-Lewis University, as well as a masters in Instructional Technology from the University of South Florida. He had previously been employed as a contract Instructional Designer for various companies and organizations, as well as the USF Morsani College of Medicine.

Mark was an excellent chef, and greatly enjoyed cooking for family and friends. He truly valued family time and he always tried to make gatherings with them special. He and his wife were a common fixture at science fiction conventions throughout the SE US, having met while costuming at a 1993 convention in St. Petersburg FL. Mark had an incredibly creative mind, and won awards for his costume creations. He also loved to write sci-fi story outlines and bounce them off his long suffering wife and friends.

Memorial gatherings will be set up over the next few months in both VA and FL. Please reach out to his wife Su at sregonini@mac.com for future details. Donations in his honor may be made to José Andres’ World Central Kitchen (wck.com), an organization helping to feed people affected by war and natural disasters throughout the world.
