Sara Turner Barefoot, of 2310 Churchill Road in Raleigh, North Carolina, died on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at UNC Chapel Hill Hospital in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Sara was born to Robert Davis Turner and LeClare Cowart Turner in LaGrange, Georgia, on February 9, 1967.

She is a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill, with a BA Degree in Political Science and was an active member of Kappa Delta Sorority.
Upon graduation, she was employed by Wachovia Bank in Winston-Salem, NC, Dallas, Texas and Raleigh, followed by Centex Homes prior to becoming a full time Mom, and then working at Barefoot Family Law.

Sara cherished her friends and family, especially her boys. She was so proud of them and excited about the future ahead for each of them. She delighted in sharing stories about her beloved boys — from the athletic fields to the stage, from city adventures to deployment plans, from a budding design career to significant others. She loved to share their lives with those around her.

Sara’s calm, sweet presence gave her an innate ability to see a person’s true self, who they were at their core, often before even they knew who they truly were. She was a friend to many, welcoming newcomers to Raleigh, helping others find their “tribe,” and making lifelong friendships. We will miss Sara’s wit and humor tremendously, as she could deliver a one-liner with a sparkle and a punch! We loved her infectious laughter and funny stories. It is easy to love Sara.

Sara had many talents and passions. She loved music, was always up for a live performance! She was gifted with culinary skills that could tackle the most challenging recipes while still delivering the perfect southern casserole. Her flower garden was gorgeous, and she was full of helpful gardening hints, even for those of us with a brown thumb.

One of our favorite things about Sara was her kindness to all animals. She loved her dogs Gus and Battle with compassion and humor. Sara failed miserably as a foster mom when she couldn’t bear to return her foster dog Battle to Saving Grace Animal Rescue, where she was a faithful and dedicated volunteer.

Sara is survived by 3 sons - David Caldwell Barefoot III, Zollie Augustus Barefoot and Turner Mathews Barefoot, and their Father, David Caldwell Barefoot, Jr, all of Raleigh, NC; her father, Robert Davis Turner of Winston-Salem, and her brother, Robert Davis Turner, Jr. of Charlotte.
Sara was preceded in death by her mother, LeClare Cowart Turner.

A service will be held at Christ Church in Raleigh at 2 pm on Monday, June 3. A reception will follow. A burial service will be held at a later date at Saint Paul's Episcopal Church in Winston-Salem.
