William Michael Speri (Bill), 80, of Raleigh, NC passed away on July 13th at his home. Bill was born on July 4, 1944 in New Brunswick, NJ to William and Lucy Speri.

Bill Speri was known for his love of the New York Yankees and was a prodigious player in his youth. He graduated from Penn State University and then obtained his PhD from Rutgers University. His professional career spanned 33 and a third years with The DuPont Company. Promotions brought new assignments and moves away from Delaware. Locations included Tennessee, California, New York State, Tokyo, JPN twice, and Raleigh, NC. In retirement he played golf as often as possible, loved cycling on the greenway, and spending time with his family. He and his wife of 56 years loved traveling and visiting friends. He was a doting grandfather and could be seen on the sidelines of his many grandchildren’s games or recitals with a smile and words of encouragement. The smile, his kindness, and love of family were the hallmarks of his life.

Bill is survived by his wife, Joyce and three children: Elizabeth, Jennifer and William Jr along with his grandchildren: Taylor, Ella, Matthew, Mackenzie, Lila, Carter, Alex, Justin, Charlotte and Sarah. He is also survived by his sister Lois, her husband Ray, and his nieces and nephews.

A memorial will be held on August 17th at 11:30am at JC Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh, NC. The family invites friends and loved ones to join them in celebrating Bill’s life and memories.

In lieu of flowers, please make any memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Association.
