Horst Dewitz

Horst A. Dewitz passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on February 6, 2025, joining his beloved wife, Anita, who pre-deceased him. Horst was the proud patriarch of his family. He is survived by two sisters, Ursula Helwig and Inge Helling, his daughter, Annette (Dewitz) Bucci and son-in-law, Gregg Bucci, his son, Michael B. Dewitz and daughter-in-law, Kerri Dewitz, his grandchildren, Ryan Dewitz, Eric Bucci, Tyler Dewitz and Jacquelyn (Bucci) Davis, in addition to five great grandchildren, Xander Dewitz, Manning Dewitz, Cameron Bucci, Colbie Dewitz, and Jordan Davis.

He was an adventurer at heart; after immigrating from Germany to the United States he proudly served in Korea for the U.S. Army before raising his family in Merrick, NY. During retirement in Payson, AZ he enjoyed many adventures through 4-wheeling and travelling both domestically and abroad. Retirement provided him with great joy and many treasured stories, which he freely shared with family and friends. His final few years in Huntsville, AL and Pittsboro, NC offered him the chance to reconnect with his son and daughter after many years loving life from a different time zone.

At Horst’s request, no services will be held. Following his longstanding wishes, the immediate family will scatter his ashes over the majestic Mogollon Rim near Payson, Arizona where he will return to the great open spaces he loved.
