Jaye Day-Trotter

Jaye R. Day-Trotter, 87, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026, in Raleigh, North Carolina. Born on May 17, 1938, Jaye lived a vibrant and accomplished life marked by creativity, dedication, and a generous spirit. She was known for her enduring elegance—a woman of impeccable taste whose grace and style left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

A graduate of Southern Illinois University, where she was the only woman in the Business College at the time, Jaye went on to pursue her passion for interior design. She founded Sturgeon Interiors in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, building a studio that flourished for 50 years—a lasting testament to her vision, refined aesthetic, and unwavering work ethic. Her eye for beauty and detail transformed not only spaces, but also the way others experienced them.
Beyond her professional life, Jaye had a deep appreciation for the fine arts and American history. She gave generously of her time through volunteer work and service on the boards of numerous community organizations. Whether traveling to new places, entertaining in her home, swimming at her club pool, or enjoying spirited games of Mah Jong with dear friends, Jaye carried herself with effortless poise and warmth. She had a gift for making everyday moments feel special, always bringing a sense of beauty, hospitality, and quiet sophistication to those around her.

Jaye was preceded in death by her parents, Edmund and Ethel Rasmussen, and by her husbands, Charles Day and James Trotter, both of whom shared in the chapters of her life. She is survived by her loving children, Stephanie Williams (David) of Burlington, North Carolina, and Christian Day (Wendy) of Monument, Colorado. She also leaves behind five cherished granddaughters to whom she was affectionately known as “PerQ”: Daye Williams of Chicago, Illinois; Hanna Davis (Robert) of Raleigh, North Carolina; and 1st Lt (USAF) Sydney Day, Nicole Day, and Danielle Day, all of Monument, Colorado.

A Celebration of Life to honor Jaye will be held at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 100 E. Peace Street, Raleigh, North Carolina, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army, Paws for Purple Hearts, or the College of the Ozarks.
