Crystal McBrayer

Crystal Heather McBrayer, née Herrera, passed away on May 12, 2026, at the age of 39, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, and her passing leaves a deep emptiness in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Crystal was born on August 8, 1986, in Riverside, California, to Lee Roy Herrera and Jennifer Mezo. She grew up in Lakeland, Florida, where she attended Lakeland Senior High School and was loved by so many in the community she called home. Crystal later made her home in Statesville, North Carolina, with her husband and children. She worked as an insurance agent and brought care, dedication, and compassion into the work she did and the people she helped.
Crystal shared a deep and lasting love with her husband, Russell McBrayer. Their story began when they first met in middle school, and years later, they reconnected in 2007. From that moment on, they built a life together filled with devotion, challenges, memories, and a bond that stood the test of time. Russell was not only her husband, but her partner, her safe place, and the person who walked beside her through life. Above all else, Crystal was a mother. Her children, Nathen and Micaela, were the center of her world and the greatest pieces of her heart. She loved them deeply and fiercely, in the way only a mother can. Her love for them will never leave them. It will live on in their memories, in the lessons she taught them, in the moments they shared, and in the parts of themselves that will always reflect her.
Crystal had a way of leaving her mark on the people who loved her. She will be remembered for her heart, her strength, her devotion to her family, and the presence she brought into the lives around her. Though her time here was far too short, the love she gave was real, lasting, and unforgettable. She had a deep love for the beach, especially Anna Maria Island, where she found peace and joy near the water. She also loved the swans in Lakeland, a part of the place where she grew up and always carried with her.
Crystal is survived by her husband, Russell McBrayer; her children, Nathen Williamson and Micaela McBrayer; her siblings, Marianda Marshall, Paul Mata, Olivia Narrizano, Kaitlyn Braswell, as well as other siblings; her grandfather, Daniel Ashford and his wife, Cathy; her aunts, Jill Wilbur-Reid and Janelle Touchberry; her uncle, James Bryan; along with many other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Jennifer Mezo; her Nana, Joyce Bryan; and her grandfather, Jerry Bryan.
A celebration of life will be held on August 8, 2026, in honor of what would have been Crystal’s 40th birthday. Details will be shared with family and friends at a later time.
Crystal’s memory will live on through her husband, her children, her family, and everyone who had the privilege of loving her. Her life cannot be measured by the years she had, but by the love she gave, the family she created, and the memories that will continue to hold her close. Her absence will be felt every day, but so will her love.
