Yvonne Smith Dovell

A Life Well Loved

Yvonne Smith Dovell was born on October 24, 1939, to the late Wayne Smith Sr. and Lillian Hardee. She was proceeded in death of her siblings, Wayne Smith Jr., Bob Smith, and Jeannette Smith.

Yvonne went to public school in Kinston, North Carolina, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree. She then worked for the North Carolina Department of Revenue for 34 years until she retired. She was one of the hardest-working people we will ever know, and her work did not stop when she retired. She spent many more years as a night auditor at a local hotel, until her health declined.

Yvonne had a heart big enough for everyone she loved and for every animal that crossed her path. She was humorous, feisty, honest, and she was never afraid to speak her mind. She could always make us laugh, even on the hardest days.

Today our hearts are heavy, but they are also full. She left us with lessons worth living by working hard, loving fiercely, being kind to every creature, standing up for yourself, and never taking life too seriously.

She leaves behind her beloved poodle, “Ginger,” whom she often called “her girl.” She also leaves behind a host of family and friends.

Gone but never forgotten!
