Marilyn D. Jacoby
Marny
Marilyn “Marny” Louise (Donenwirth) Jacoby, age 93, peacefully passed away on October 23, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Marny was born on January 22, 1932, in Canton, Ohio and attended Ohio Wesleyan University majoring in both English and German, and graduated cum laude. Afterward, she was recruited and offered a position with the CIA and was also offered a full-ride scholarship in the Department of Psychology at the University of Chicago; she chose to marry her loving husband, Dale H. Jacoby, and start a family.

Throughout her life, Marny was an avid reader, inquisitive, dignified, a good listener, and liked to think about and discuss topics with objectivity. She was knowledgeable about a wide array of topics and liked to be challenged by ideas. She enjoyed singing, playing bridge, cooking, camping, painting, the outdoors, gardening, traveling, and flying with Dale. In addition, she loved baking from old family recipes, passing down stories about family history, and raising her four daughters.

Marny worked in a medical department at Ohio State University after college and always filled in at Dale’s dental practice whenever needed. She was passionate about serving and volunteering in her community and devoted time to help guide efforts at the Rossford Public Library, the Wood County Board of Mental Health, CCL, Rossford High School, her church, and with friends. Traits that were particularly strong in Marny were that she was always hopeful and positive in her outlook, particularly in times of adversity. Marny was kind, gentle, good-hearted, and lived a life that demonstrated the importance of ethics and morals.

Marny is survived by her four daughters: Anne Whiting, Jill Simon, Jennifer Jacobs, and Leslie Young, and has six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Marny was dearly loved by her family and friends and will be forever missed.

Transitions LifeCare
Transitions Hospice Home was amazing and is a non-profit medical hospice. We were able to gather and stay with my mother the whole time she was there and volunteers provided food, quilts, and artwork for the patients and families and the care was stellar. Transitions provides care not only for adults but also children, offers free, specialized grief programs for patients and families, spiritual care, and other types of assistance. We had a fabulous experience that was both sad a times, but mostly joyful, in a lovely and gentle environment.

Our Promise

Apples to Apples

Just like all other licensed funeral homes in North Carolina, City of Oaks Cremation, LLC is regulated by the NC Board of Funeral Service.

The same laws that apply to the big corporate funeral homes also apply to the modest independently owned firms like ours. All crematories in North Carolina, regardless of who owns them, are inspected annually by the state and must adhere to the same rules and laws.

icon
Cremation with Private Family Viewing

$1596.75

City of Oaks Funeral Home and Cremation provides an affordable cremation with a private family viewing. A private family viewing allows up to 10 immediate family members or friends to spend time with a loved one when a public visitation is not preferred.

icon
Immediate Burial

$2497.50

An immediate burial has the same end result as a traditional burial; however, we have eliminated the extra (sometimes unnecessary) services prior to getting to the cemetery. Not everyone wants an open casket for viewing or a limousine for the family. Despite the term immediate, we can move as fast as you need or as slow as you like. This option simply allows you to save money by eliminating some of the fancy extras at the funeral home.

icon
Traditional Funeral

$6081.48

We offer the same traditional funeral services as the big corporately owned funeral homes in the area; however, we cost about half the amount. You might consider a traditional funeral service if your family is looking for an open casket visitation, a traditional church service or a funeral service in the funeral home's chapel. A traditional funeral service can be altered to fit the needs of your family.

icon
Green Burial

$3033.75

This establishment is one of a select number of funeral homes who meet the criteria for providing green funeral service by the Green Burial Council; a tax-exempt, nonprofit organization working to encourage environmentally sustainability in the field of funeral service. Our Green options allow for a funeral to take place without the use of toxic and non-biodegradable materials/chemicals.

Aquamation

$2640.59

As an alternative to traditional cremation, City of Oaks Funeral Home also offers Aquamation. The Aquamation process, often referred to as alkaline hydrolysis, uses a solution of water and potassium hydroxide to facilitate natural decomposition.
