In Loving Memory of

Elizabeth "Liz" Morrissey

Elizabeth “Liz” Morrissey, 78, of Cary, North Carolina died comfortably in her home on December 2, 2021. She was born on October 2, 1943, in Pennsylvania. The youngest of three children born to Verna Hashagen, she left the state after graduating high school and travelled to Washington, D.C. where she began her administrative service with the U.S. government. Her career, her eventual marriage to her late husband Thomas Morrissey, and her general wanderlust took her all over the world. Throughout her life, she lived in Thailand, Toyko, Paris, Brazil, and New York City before eventually settling into a quieter life in Cary, N.C. She had no reason to make North Carolina her new home except that it had been the location she and her late husband had decided to retire to together.

Liz found joy spending time with her family and friends, telling stories from her days abroad, and playing a mean game of cards. Those who knew Liz describe her as confident, strong, compassionate, and independent––qualities her children hope they too have inherited and can cultivate in their children. Though the world has lost a bit of its glow with her passing, we are comforted knowing her light shines brightly in all those who loved her.

She is survived by her children, Megan Morrissey and Matthew Morrissey, and their spouses, Jennifer Aglio and Krista Morrissey, and her grandchildren, Quinn Aglio and Madison Morrissey. Additionally, she leaves behind her nieces Tammy Drake Kalmus, Terri Rumsey, Christine Zotti, and nephews, Chuck Lauchner, Michael Lauchner, and Patrick O’Connell.
