Michael Lee McLawhorn

Michael Lee McLawhorn, 74, passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2022. He was born on June 24,1947 in New Bern, NC to James Earl and Velma Lupton McLawhorn from Vanceboro, NC.
Michael grew up in Vanceboro graduating from Farm Life High School. After graduation from East Carolina University in 1969 he relocated to Raleigh NC and joined Carolina Light and Power Co. After 33 years of dedicated service Michael retired from Progress Energy in 2003.
Michael was predeceased by his parents, James and Velma McLawhorn, and by two very special aunts, Loney and Rachel McLawhorn. He is survived by his brother, Kenneth McLawhorn and his wife, Sylvia, a nephew, Ken McLawhorn, nieces, Cynthia McLawhorn Fields (Greg), Susan McLawhorn Marshall and their families. Michael had a very special friend, Tony Jones, who was an angel in disguise by assisting him and helping to make life easier. The family would also like to thank the many doctors and nurses that treated and cared for him during his recent hospitalization.
Michael’s hobby was participating in Fantasy Baseball Leagues and there were many friends who participated with him across the U.S. This hobby provided many hours of entertainment and enjoyment for Michael throughout his retirement.
A private memorial service has been planned for his family. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
