Betsy Talley

Betsy Rogers Talley passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, under hospice care at the Oaks at Whitaker Glen. She was born December 9, 1941, and grew up in Fuquay-Varina. After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, she began her career as an English teacher at Needham B. Broughton High School in 1964 and moved in 1968 to Jesse O. Sanderson High School, where she served as head of the English Department until her retirement. Betsy was a long-time member of Delta Kappa Gamma professional society for women educators. She was also a dedicated member of The Scribblers, a local writing group of Raleigh English teachers.

Betsy was preceded in death by her parents, F. Allen Rogers and Elizabeth D. Rogers, and her brother William F. Rogers, all of Fuquay-Varina. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth R. Talley of Raleigh; brother Daniel Rogers of Evanston, IL; nephew Matthew Rogers of Bloomington, IN; and niece Celeste Rogers of Chicago, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Meals on Wheels of Wake County or DonorsChoose.org, a nonprofit site for funding projects in public school classrooms. A celebration of Betsy’s life will be held at a future time.
