Arthur Ira Monegain
1947 - 2023

Arthur ("Art") Ira Monegain, age 75, of Raleigh, NC passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 11, 2023.

Arthur was born in Chicago, IL in 1947 to Marion and Irene Monegain. He graduated from Harrison High School in Chicago. Many years later while visiting his brother Marty, he had the pleasure of meeting a former teacher who he greeted by his first name. His teacher responded by telling Art to call him Mister and Art’s response to that was well you can call me Dr. Monegain. They both laughed and reminisced. Arthur was a master at turning the tables. Arthur served in the U.S. Army. He was a veteran of the Vietnam war and after his honorable discharge he returned to college. Arthur earned both the Bachelor of Science degree and Masters of Science in Education degree from Northern Illinois University. Arthur was also awarded the degree of Master of Science in Communication from Northwestern University. Arthur got his love for education from his mother, Irene. She beamed with pride while watching him walk across the stage to receive his Doctor of Education from North Carolina State University.

Arthur devoted his life to the education and development of others. Arthur lived an active life. He was a runner, an excellent tennis player and he was a certified scuba diver, but most of all he loved animals, especially dogs. Art had a dog named Keena, she was an Alaskan Malamute. He took her everywhere; he called her his therapist.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents Marion Monegain and Irene Harris.

Arthur is survived by his wife Theresa Paparella and brothers Marty (Louise) Monegain, Ronald (Clara) Monegain, and their families.

Although Art had no children of his own, he had many nieces and nephews that he loved spending time with. His nieces and nephews thought him to be their "cool uncle". They loved when he came around. His presence guaranteed fun and laughter. He had a very special relationship with his niece Doreen who predeceased him in November 2022.

Having married into a family with more than 20 nieces and nephews, Arthur was in his element. As an educator in life, he enjoyed watching each one grow and flourish.

His family and friends will remember is radiant smile and optimistic approach to life.

Services will be determined at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Anti-Cruelty Society (https://anticruelty.org/donate).
