Howard Michael Shirey

Howard Michael Shirey, 74, of Raleigh, NC, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 15th, 2023, of natural causes.

Howard was born on September 16th, 1948, to parents of Howard Martin Shirey and Anne Nagy Shirey of Columbus, OH.

In 1970, he graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering from Franklin University.

Soon after, Howard met Brenda Ballard who he was married to for 51 years. Howard and Brenda went on to have two children, Melissa Lambert, and Alan Shirey. He was a kind and loving husband and a strong, proud, and supportive father.

In 2006, Howard retired from his 30-year career from Nortel Networks and spent his time serving others for 17 years at Nordstrom. Howard was known for his light-hearted sense of humor and ability to make everyone around him laugh and smile.

Howard loved being surrounded with family and was a very proud “Paw-paw” of two grandchildren who he found great joy in watching dominate at any sport they played.

Howard is survived by his loving wife, Brenda; and children, Melissa Lambert of Robbins, NC and Alan Shirey of McLean, VA; son-in-law, Jeffrey Lambert; and grandchildren: Beau and Ellie Lambert.

Howard was predeceased by his parents Howard Martin Shirey and Anne Nagy Shirey and his in-laws Daniel and Dora Ballard.
