'Poppy Dan' was a unique man-as southern as they come, with a big old heart and a not so mild obsession with grilling meat. Some fond memories of Dan are when the families spent the holidays together. Dan loved talking politics, making deviled eggs (Dan's were the best ever) and cooking his dry-aged rib roasts of which he was rightly proud. All the grand babies loved Poppy Dan because he was very much a child at heart. He was a great gift giver, and even more so a brilliant gift wrapper, which he was also rightly proud of. Dan was a great husband, stepfather, step grandfather and father-in-law.
The family would like to thank Dan's colleagues at Duke Energy, where he worked for the majority of his life. Dan cared for, enjoyed and appreciated his work group, past and present, and the family greatly appreciates the love and support they all showed him during his illness.
Those who wish to remember Dan in a special way may make a gift in his memory to a children's charity of their choosing.
