George Joseph Young, 77, of Durham, passed away on May 10, 2023 surrounded by family. Beloved husband of Norma (Carter) Young. Devoted father to his children - Stephanie (Gordon) Galloway and Jessica (Matt) Edwin and preceded in death by his son, Michael (Jennifer Schaper) Young. Proud Pop to Erin, Anabelle, Eben, and Thompson. Brother to Joseph (Barbara) Young, sister Diana Testa, sister-in-law Brenda Forbes, and preceded in death by sister Barbara Cusato, brother-in-laws Lou Testa, Joseph Cusato, and Redwell Forbes. He loved his many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was born to Joseph and Mae Young, spent his childhood in Berlin, NJ before meeting his wife of 54 years at Pfeiffer University. They forged many lifelong friendships when they lived happily in Cary, NC, Harvard, MA, and Durham, NC. His science career began at NC State, then multiple companies in MA, returning to NC to lead the startup of a biotech company in Durham. George was passionate about cycling, the Boston Red Sox, music, including playing the guitar, and spending time with his family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
