James Smith

James P. Smith passed away at the age of 76 at WakeMed Cary hospital in Cary, North Carolina.

James (Jim) Smith was born in Charlotte, North Carolina and lived in North Carolina only a few years before moving to Illinois where he spent the majority of his life. He attended University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) for his undergraduate studies where he met his wife Marcia Greaves. He then achieved his master’s degree from University of Loyola Chicago. Jim had a long career in human resources working in various industries such as medical supplies, banking, and cellular phone service.

He was preceded in death by his wife (Marcia Smith) and his parents (James W. and Virginia Smith). He is survived by a daughter Erin Smith Cook (husband Adam) and a son Michael Smith, both of Apex, North Carolina as well as a sister Suzanna Smith Preckwinkle of Springfield, Illinois.

He will be remembered by his family for his love of good food, movies (and movie quotes), and all things sports-related. His warm laugh and sense of humor will be greatly missed. His family will celebrate his life privately and there is no formal service planned.
