Lavonne Lloyd

Lavonne Morman Lloyd was the eighth of nine children born to the late Ira James and Bessie Hester Morman. She was born November 23, 1947, in Washington, D.C., where she also completed her elementary and secondary education.

Her career started at the Library of Congress as a typesetter. She continued in this profession at the Department of Agriculture, The Army-Navy Times and The Washington Star before becoming the co-owner of Lloyd's CompuType from 1975 to 1982. She went on to work at CLB Printing Co. and Frank Gordon Printing Co.

Lavonne married James Edward Lloyd, Jr., in 1965 and had two children from that union, Darryl and Traci before divorcing in the early nineties. Later in life, Lavonne cherished her role as grandma and Nana to her three grandchildren.

In 2007, Lavonne relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina with her daughter Traci, where she loved nurturing and caring for her grandson, as well as children of neighboring families. She lived a quiet life as an avid reader and enjoyed stimulating her mind with puzzles and word games. Even as her health declined, Lavonne Lloyd faced challenges with quiet strength and grace.

Lavonne was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 2 sisters. She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Darryl Edward Lloyd (Stephanie); one daughter, Traci Alridge; two brothers, Freddie and Wade; three grandchildren, Symone and Symeon Lloyd, and Anderson Alridge; and a host of relatives and friends.
