Obituary
Zoey Nicole Jones

Knightdale, North Carolina

Age 11.
Died 04/16/2024.

Zoey Nicole Jones
Zoey Nicole Jones of Knightdale, NC was called home to heaven on April 16, 2024 after a year-long battle with a brain tumor.

She was born on January 9, 2013 at 3:33 am. Yes, even Zoey knew right down to the minute that she was born. When asked for the typical identifying information at her many appointments and treatments, she would often add in the time of her birth as well. If she didn’t, the staff would ask, waiting for Zoey’s giggle like she was trying to test her care team as if they didn’t know exactly who she was from the moment she came through the door.

Since she was small, Zoey had a passion for drawing and painting. She went through countless sketch books, canvases, and art supplies. As her brain tumor journey evolved, she developed an even greater love for music and jokes. She had a song to fit any conversation and would randomly have her smart device affectionately known as “computer” play songs that reminded her of a special moment or feeling she was experiencing.

Zoey was often found going out of her way to help those around her, especially those less fortunate. Overflowing with generosity, Zoey readily extended whatever she had at the moment — whether it was food, water, or simply engaging in meaningful conversation — to those who were in need. During her hospital stay, we learned that she had been quietly offering snacks to classmates who lacked them. Which explains why our snack supply seemed to disappear so quickly. Zoey's innate kindness extended far beyond material things; she consistently sought out opportunities to make sure those around her felt loved. The depths of her compassionate nature left those who met her with a whole new outlook on life.

Zoey eagerly awaited our beach outings and mountain adventures. Among her favorite moments were those spent singing karaoke, exchanging jokes, gem mining, and engaging in heartfelt conversations with everyone.

As Zoey prepared to celebrate her 11th birthday in January, Make-A-Wish helped make her dreams of experiencing a volcano come true. After some brainstorming and quick planning, Zoey and her family were able to visit Mauna Loa and Kīlauea on the Island of Hawaii (The Big Island). Zoey was able to touch and examine volcanic rocks as well as observe active lava and the heat vents. This brought her much joy and ignited her passion to be a Geologist even more. If you visited with Zoey you were sure to hear about her love for rocks, gems, and fossils.

The bright light that radiated from within Zoey will be missed by so many.

Her memory will live on within her parents, Benjamin and Nicole Jones; doting brother, Zyair; Paternal Grandparents, Carstella Moore and Benjamin Jones; Maternal Grandparents, Gregory and Laura Athey; Godmother and Auntie Amber and Craig Doschadis and cousins Mareya, Marlee, and Meena; and Auntie Jennifer and Tedd Curry and cousin Oliver; additional Godparents Amy Jerome, Miles Moore, and Dennis Little; along with a large extended family and friends who became family. Zoey also leaves behind her beloved ducks Cheese and Quackers and her adopted rescue shark Mia.

Awaiting her arrival at heavens gates were her Auntie Amanda and Cousin Lamar.

Several organizations supported Zoey's family during this journey and would benefit from any donations in Zoey’s memory.

icon
Immediate Burial

$2497.50

An immediate burial has the same end result as a traditional burial; however, we have eliminated the extra (sometimes unnecessary) services prior to getting to the cemetery. Not everyone wants an open casket for viewing or a limousine for the family. Despite the term immediate, we can move as fast as you need or as slow as you like. This option simply allows you to save money by eliminating some of the fancy extras at the funeral home.

icon
Green Burial

$3033.75

This establishment is one of a select number of funeral homes who meet the criteria for providing green funeral service by the Green Burial Council; a tax-exempt, nonprofit organization working to encourage environmentally sustainability in the field of funeral service. Our Green options allow for a funeral to take place without the use of toxic and non-biodegradable materials/chemicals.

icon
Traditional Funeral

$5866.98

We offer the same traditional funeral services as the big corporately owned funeral homes in the area; however, we cost about half the amount. You might consider a traditional funeral service if your family is looking for an open casket visitation, a traditional church service or a funeral service in the funeral home's chapel. A traditional funeral service can be altered to fit the needs of your family.

icon
Aquamation

$2640.59

As an alternative to traditional cremation, City of Oaks Funeral Home also offers Aquamation. The Aquamation process, often referred to as alkaline hydrolysis, uses a solution of water and potassium hydroxide to facilitate natural decomposition.
