Obituary
Joyce Griffin Hayes Cline Putsche

Zebulon, North Carolina

Age 91.
Died 04/29/2024.

Joyce Griffin Hayes Cline Putsche
Joyce Griffin Putsche died peacefully on the evening of April 29, 2024 after a spirited six year battle with Dementia.

She is survived by her loving daughter Sarah Hayes Lauric (John), grandchildren Samantha Lauric Foxwell (Will), Zachary William Lauric “Zac”, Ryan Thomas Lauric, and great grandchildren Avadina Nicastro “Ava” & William Shelton Foxwell V “Liam”. and her devoted son Samuel Leonard Hayes (Sherry) and grandchildren Brannan Griffin Hayes and Bailey Elizabeth Hayes

William Samuel Hayes, the father of her beloved children preceded her in death (1988), as did her 2nd husband William Harold Cline (2000) and her 3rd husband Chris Putsche (2015).

Born Marion Joyce Griffin on October 19, 1932 in Moultrie, GA, the only child of Eunice Hurt and Benjamin Franklin Griffin. Joyce sadly lost both parents by the age of three.

Extended Family helped as much as they could, but mostly Joyce was raised in Sunbright, TN, by her Aunt Sarah Bowman who also preceded her in death. Joyce shared “it must have been hard since Sarah’s own daughter Jodi died” and respected her Aunt for taking her in.

Always tough, independent, and free spirited, Joyce went to Cincinnati, OH and worked briefly as a secretary. She said, “wanted to throw the typewriter out the window!” She enjoyed being a nanny for a Doctor there, but eventually returned to Sunbright to finish High School.

Then she met Bill Hayes, “an excellent father for her children”. Friends Dean & Charles Green stood witness to their GA marriage on December 20, 1953. The couple lived in several states following jobs until Bill retired to Cameron, NC in 1983 just 5 years prior to his death.

Joyce married Harold William Cline November 13, 1993 and was as devoted and faithful to him as she was to Bill. They enjoyed traveling and being grandparents to Samantha and Zachary Lauric until his illness prompted a move to NC in 1999. Living with Sam, they enjoyed new grandson Brannan until Harold’s death in February 2000.

In 2009, Joyce let Chris Putsche visit after 5 years of talking online. He was as sharp-witted and stubborn as her so both met their match. Ultimately they married and lived in Oklahoma; he died in December of 2015.

In 2016 Joyce returned to Chesapeake, VA to live with Sarah until moving to Chesapeake Place in late 2018. She enjoyed being there until the Pandemic put her on lockdown for 5 months, which led her back to NC to live with Sam for the rest of the Pandemic.

In July 2021 Joyce moved to The Lodge of Wake Forest where she made friends and was voted Prom Queen! She enjoyed living there until April 20, 2023 when she fell and broke her femur. After surgery and 2 months at rehab, she moved into Terra Bella Assisted Living on June 20, 2023. Staff at both fell in love with Joyce & took wonderfully good care of her.

Joyce continued to be feisty and independent til the end, falling often in the last days of her 6 year battle with Dementia, forgetting she couldn’t just get up and do what she wanted.

Joyce enjoyed cooking delicious food and spending time with her family. She also loved to read, enjoyed various types of needle work and crocheting, but nothing made her happier than to have all of her family together.

She was a devoted mom, loving wife, fun-loving, generous and a bit mischievous. We will treasure her memory forever in our hearts & minds.

There will be a family graveside service at Pocket Presbyterian Church 669 Pocket Church Rd, Sanford, NC 27330 at 1:00 PM on May 13th, 2024.

Immediate Burial

$2497.50

An immediate burial has the same end result as a traditional burial; however, we have eliminated the extra (sometimes unnecessary) services prior to getting to the cemetery. Not everyone wants an open casket for viewing or a limousine for the family. Despite the term immediate, we can move as fast as you need or as slow as you like. This option simply allows you to save money by eliminating some of the fancy extras at the funeral home.

icon
Traditional Funeral

$6081.48

We offer the same traditional funeral services as the big corporately owned funeral homes in the area; however, we cost about half the amount. You might consider a traditional funeral service if your family is looking for an open casket visitation, a traditional church service or a funeral service in the funeral home's chapel. A traditional funeral service can be altered to fit the needs of your family.

Green Burial

$3033.75

This establishment is one of a select number of funeral homes who meet the criteria for providing green funeral service by the Green Burial Council; a tax-exempt, nonprofit organization working to encourage environmentally sustainability in the field of funeral service. Our Green options allow for a funeral to take place without the use of toxic and non-biodegradable materials/chemicals.

Aquamation

$2640.59

As an alternative to traditional cremation, City of Oaks Funeral Home also offers Aquamation. The Aquamation process, often referred to as alkaline hydrolysis, uses a solution of water and potassium hydroxide to facilitate natural decomposition.
