Melissa Harrison Hogan, 57, of Raleigh, NC passed away on May 2, 2024.

Melissa was born on June 17, 1966, to Linda Eastep Harrison and Dalton Ray Harrison Jr. in Raleigh, NC. She graduated from Cary High School in 1984 and received a BA in Communications from North Carolina State University in 2006. She held several different jobs during her adult life, most notably as an assistant in the Maintenance Department at Ravenscroft School which she really enjoyed.

Melissa was a fun-loving person, who enjoyed laughing and making others laugh. She loved her friends and family deeply and would do anything for them. She helped arrange a summer job for her nephew through Ravenscroft when there were none to be found and then let him live with her for two months, so he’d be close to the office. She would purchase gifts for friends if she was out shopping and saw something she knew they would like. She was a wonderful cook and particularly liked to make extra big pots of soup, chili, and homemade spaghetti sauce to share with her coworkers. She loved cats and couldn’t resist bringing the strays home that she found. One of her favorites was Fender, who got his name because she found him hiding in the fender of a car. She was skilled at crossword puzzles, not having any difficulty completing the challenging Friday ones. She loved playing board games, shooting off fireworks, and spending time at the beach. Melissa loved anything purple, the show Twilight with Jackson Rathbone, the series Firefly, the video game Tomb Raider, and her beloved Hurricanes. But what she loved the most was her daughter, Tori.

Melissa was predeceased by her father, Dalton Ray Harrison Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Victoria Leigh Hogan, mother, Linda Eastep Harrison, sister, Kim Harrison Herr (Scott), niece, Rebecca Lynn Herr and three nephews, Daniel Harrison Herr, Christopher John Herr and Matthew Scott Herr.

A memorial service will be held at The Kirk of Kildaire Presbyterian Church, 200 High Meadow Drive, Cary, NC on June 8th at 1:00pm. If you are able to attend, the family would love for you to wear even a little something purple!
