Daniel Lief Grodem

With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Daniel Lief Grodem. Daniel lost his courageous battle with acute myeloid leukemia on July 3, 2024, at 3:33 p.m. in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
He leaves behind his wife of (almost) 25 years, Stephanie Grodem, who will forever hold him in her heart as an irreplaceable presence.
He was a devoted father and grandfather and left behind children Sarah Shearman (James) and grandchildren Lillyanna, Alasdair, and Artemis; Austin Braswell (Marissa) and grandchildren River and Summer; Nickelous Braswell and grandson Bentley; Dainiel Grodem, Kyle Grodem (Sabrina) and grandson on the way, Roland.
Daniel is also survived by his sister, Deana Matuch (Gregory), and their children, Alexander and Nicholas; his brother-in-law and best friend, Jonathan Piper; and his children, Victoria, Hayleigh, and Zane. Many other extended family members, friends, and pets will feel his absence.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, Nancy Grodem and Dane Grodem.
Daniel lived a meaningful life centered around his family. He enjoyed spending time with family by sharing his love of the outdoors, hiking, or just walking and enjoying nature. He enjoyed family game night when not spending time with his family outdoors. When not with family, he could be found in a quiet room reading a book, or at his computer playing a game.
He will be remembered for his unwavering strength, hard work, competitive nature, and sense of humor. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
A private viewing will be held in honor of Daniel's life at City of Oaks Cremation. Please contact the family for details.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in his memory.
