Mary Smith

Mary Smith (95), of Franklinton, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, July 8, 2024. She was born August 23, 1928, in Ripley, Tennessee to the late O.D. and Nora Lucas.
Mary attended Ripley High School and then continued her schooling in Cosmetology School. She enjoyed being a full-time beautician. She later decided to stay home to care for family and manage the home, only taking clients occasionally. Mary was dedicated to her family and was always available when her family needed her.
Mary was an involved member of the Mount Olivet Baptist Church and enjoyed membership in the church choir until her health forced her to step down. She enjoyed helping others, and was a volunteer for many committees and programs while her health allowed it. Mary enjoyed flowers, gardening, and shopping! She enjoyed reading and could often be found under her heated blanket with a book. Mary also loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spoiled all of them as much as she could.
Mary was preceded in death by her husbands James Lawrence and R.C. Smith; brothers Tom Lucas and Pete Lucas; great-grandchildren, Jacob Zimmermann, Ethan Zimmermann, and Riley Rowe; and many other extended aunts, uncles, and family members.
Mary is survived by her sons Jeff Lawrence(Lisa), Jim Lawrence(Lori), and Dale Lawrence(Betty); grandchildren Andrea Zimmermann (Joseph), Carly Rowe (Anthony), Travis Smith (Megan), James Lawrence (Michelle), Ben Lawrence (Christina), Tessa Lawrence; Great-Grandchildren, Blake, Reid, Kennedy, Grant, Hazel, and Emma; Nephew, Robert Lucas; and countless friends and extended family.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Carolyn Mitchell for the love and care that she has shown to Mary over the years. They would not have been able to keep her as comfortable, happy, and at home without Carolyn and she has been a true blessing. The family would also like to thank the Franklin County Meals on Wheels for providing meals, check-ins, and good conversations each day to Mary.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Franklinton NC at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Carl Hunter officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Mary's name.
