Richard R "Dick" Leinbach of Apex, NC passed away on April 1st at Durham VA Heroes Way Hospice. He was 87.

Born January 25, 1938 in Binghamton, NY, the son of Arthur and Anna, he is predeceased by his wife Barbara, brother Philip, sister Shelly, and survived by his sister Dale, his son Daniel (Lisa), his grandchildren Alex and Callie, and companion Susanne Bowden.

He received an engineering degree from Purdue University in 1961, married Barbara Durofchalk on December 16 of that year, and went on to serve as a staff officer in the US Army.

Over the course of their 57 year marriage, Richard and Barbara lived in Binghamton, NY; Mannheim, Germany; Franklin, NY; Utica, NY; and Apex, NC. He worked as a self-employed electrical engineer for much of that time.

Dick was known for his orange hat, ever-present camera, and boisterous greetings. He loved to share the gift of flight - many remember when he took them flying, to see their neighborhood or to make a trip.

He was very active in St. Mary Magdalene Catholic church, as a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and the official 10,000th member in North Carolina. He held roles such as editor, advocate, degree team member, and unofficial photographer.

He will be missed by many.

Services will take place 11 AM May 2nd at St. Mary Magdalene, 625 Magdala Place, Apex, NC 27502.
