Frederick Icken

Frederick Theodore Icken, known as "Fred," passed in the late evening of April 5, 2025. He is survived by wife Mary Kay Icken (nee August) and daughters Laura Icken and Nancy Hebel.

Fred was a kind soul with a big heart. He was known to treat everyone with kindness, dignity, and respect. Fred also had a good sense of humor and made people laugh. Fred was a model of integrity and someone you always knew you could count on.

Fred attended Northwestern University and had a Bachelors and a Masters in Business Administration. He also spent a few years in the military and served in Washington, DC under Eisenhower. Thereafter, he spent most of his career as a market research and marketing executive with pharmaceutical corporations.

Born outside New York City, he attended Nyack High School and also lived in Syracuse and Milwaukee Wisconsin before retiring to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where he lived for more than 20 years. Fred was a big sports fan and enjoyed both UNC and Duke games (despite the obvious rivalry)!
