Obituary
Sally Kellogg Lazar

Raleigh, North Carolina

Age 87.
Died 08/28/2025.

Sally Kellogg Lazar
Sally Kellogg Lazar, 87, went to her Lord on August 28, 2025 at Transitions LifeCare in Raleigh, North Carolina. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, on February 1, 1938, she was adopted by wonderful parents, Dr. Paul & Anne Rosenkeimer Kellogg, Ashland, Ohio, ten days later. After graduating from Ashland High School in 1956, she graduated from Baldwin-Wallace College, Berea, Ohio, with a BA in Studio Arts, & was a member of Delta Zeta sorority. During college years, her roommate introduced her to William Lazar from Pittsburgh, PA. They married January 7, 1961, & lived in El Paso, TX, courtesy of the military for the next two years; and from there to Bethlehem, PA, Galion, OH, & Delaware, OH, before moving to Raleigh, NC in 1983. They had three wonderful daughters, eight fantastic grandchildren, & 3 beautiful great grandchildren.
Always interested in art, Sally began designing & making her “little folk” of wood, established her business, Folkloric Designs by Sally in 1978, selling at art festivals & professional art shows from 1978 to 2019, gathering many collectors across the US & throughout England during 41 years of business.
She lightheartedly considered herself a “professional” volunteer: in Galion & Delaware, hospitals for 17 years, a Girl Scout leader for 9 years, & a docent for North Carolina Museum of Art for 20 years, serving as docent president, 1992-93. Her church, Hayes Barton United Methodist Church, was dear to heart & where she showed her love for Christ in many ways - as Prayer Warrior, the Wesleyan Class, Circle 7, the Cancer Support Team, Bereavement Committee, & Wake Interfaith overnights among a few. Traveling was always a priority in her life - she & Bill were fortunate to do extensive traveling in the world during their lives together!
She is survived in death by her husband, Bill, of 64 years. Preceding her in death was a daughter, Catherine Hymes, & a granddaughter, “Nikki” Hymes. Surviving her are two daughters, Linda Bowens (Orville), Raleigh, Christina Johnson (Eric), Asheville; brother, Dave Kellogg (Pat), Blacksburg, VA, & a son-in-law Gene Hymes, Cartagena, Columbia, SA; as well as seven grandchildren, Bruce Hymes (Rachel), Sophia Hymes, Daniel Bowens, Tyler Bowens (Brittany), Kevin Johnson, Scott Johnson & Wesley Johnson, & great grandchildren, Nora Hymes, Crew Hymes, & Case Hymes. Also surviving her are three nephews, James Kellogg (Wendy), Colorado, Dan Kellogg (Sue), Colorado, David Kellogg (Jessica), Virginia; a niece, Jennifer Kellogg, South Carolina, & many great nieces & nephews.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church in Raleigh, on September 21st at 2:00pm. For those of you unable to attend in person, the service will be streamed at hbumc.org/live. The family will receive friends at a reception following the service. Burial will take place at a later date in Ashland, Ohio.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that memorial gifts to be made to the Hayes Barton United Methodist Church, 2209 Fairview Rd., Raleigh, NC 27608, or to the Docent Foundation of the North Carolina Museum of Art, 2110 Blue Ridge Rd., Raleigh, NC 27607.

Our Promise

Apples to Apples

Just like all other licensed funeral homes in North Carolina, City of Oaks Cremation, LLC is regulated by the NC Board of Funeral Service.

The same laws that apply to the big corporate funeral homes also apply to the modest independently owned firms like ours. All crematories in North Carolina, regardless of who owns them, are inspected annually by the state and must adhere to the same rules and laws.

icon
Immediate Burial

$2497.50

An immediate burial has the same end result as a traditional burial; however, we have eliminated the extra (sometimes unnecessary) services prior to getting to the cemetery. Not everyone wants an open casket for viewing or a limousine for the family. Despite the term immediate, we can move as fast as you need or as slow as you like. This option simply allows you to save money by eliminating some of the fancy extras at the funeral home.

icon
Traditional Funeral

$6081.48

We offer the same traditional funeral services as the big corporately owned funeral homes in the area; however, we cost about half the amount. You might consider a traditional funeral service if your family is looking for an open casket visitation, a traditional church service or a funeral service in the funeral home's chapel. A traditional funeral service can be altered to fit the needs of your family.

icon
Green Burial

$3033.75

This establishment is one of a select number of funeral homes who meet the criteria for providing green funeral service by the Green Burial Council; a tax-exempt, nonprofit organization working to encourage environmentally sustainability in the field of funeral service. Our Green options allow for a funeral to take place without the use of toxic and non-biodegradable materials/chemicals.

Aquamation

$2640.59

As an alternative to traditional cremation, City of Oaks Funeral Home also offers Aquamation. The Aquamation process, often referred to as alkaline hydrolysis, uses a solution of water and potassium hydroxide to facilitate natural decomposition.
