Ann Patterson

Ann Darnell Patterson, 86, passed away peacefully at home on February 1, 2026 surrounded by friends and family. Born on August 11, 1939 in Greensboro, N.C., she was the daughter of the late C.E. Darnell and the late Edith Fulk Darnell. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Elaine Griffin and Deane Mendon, her best friend Glenda Heath, and her trusted companion Russell Jernigan, all of Greensboro.
She is survived by her daughters Terri Patterson Goddard (Robert) and Kimberly Patterson; grandchildren Bergan, Ashtyn, and Wyatt Goddard; her brother Charles Darnell (Sallie); sisters-in-law Ann Griffin and Ginger Blackwood; her friends and caregivers Peggy and Emogene; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
After graduating from Greensboro Senior High School (Grimsley) in 1957, Ann studied nursing at UNC-Greensboro. She began her career as a Registered Nurse at Cone Hospital and transitioned to long-term and geriatric care at Maryfield Nursing Home, Friends Homes Guilford, and Whitestone. For over sixty years, she was a passionate nurse and Director of Nursing who was committed to lifelong learning and the care of Alzheimer’s patients and their families.
Ann cherished time spent with family and friends, especially beach trips and sporting events with her grandchildren; estate sales, antiques and daytrips with her sisters; New Orleans, Los Angeles, and music with her daughters; book clubs, golf, and travel with friends.
A memorial celebration will be held in Greensboro in May.
