Glen J. Mueller

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Glen John "Springfield" Mueller at age 67, on May 18th, 2026, at the VA Hospital in Durham, N.C. Glen was born on February 27th 1959, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Rockland County, New York to Paul John Mueller and Mary Elizabeth Mueller (McMahon).
He graduated in 1979 from Robert E. Lee High School in Springfield, VA. He then served in the United States Army from 1978-1982 with the Presidential Honor Guard in The Old Guard, 3rd Infantry Regiment, attaining the rank of SP4. He proudly participated in President Ronald Reagan's inaugural events and considered his service protecting and escorting the President of the United States among the greatest honors of his life.
Following his military career, Glen built a strong work ethic as a dedicated employee and manager. He managed multiple stores throughout his career and faithfully served at Dossenbach's Finer Furniture located in Sanford, NC from 2002 to 2017, where he was respected for his loyalty, hard work, and commitment.
Glen was deeply devoted to serving others, especially fellow veterans. He proudly served as Commander and Service Officer at the Disabled American Veteran (DAV) in Lee County, North Carolina, and also held leadership roles as President and Vice President of the Lions Club. He found great purpose in helping veterans and giving back to his community. Outside of his service work, Glen enjoyed caring for his reptiles and other exotic animals including his two prairie dogs—a hobby that brought him much happiness.
Glen never met a stranger. He had a way of making people feel welcome, valued and heard wherever he went. Above all, Glen cherished his family. He is survived by his son Trevor Mueller; his daughter, Brooke Popp and son-in-law, Adam Popp; and beloved grandchildren, Liam and Emilynn Popp. He is also survived by his siblings, Mark, Thea, Noel, and Kurt Mueller. As well as his beloved friend, Michelle Cornstubble who was there throughout his health problems until the very end.
Glen will be remembered for his patriotism, dedication to others, unwavering work ethic and love for his family and fellow veterans. His legacy of service, compassion, and friendship will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
