Misa (Maria Luisa) Bertoldo McCord

Maria Luisa Bertoldo McCord, 89, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026, two days before her 90th birthday, surrounded by the love of her family.

Maria Luisa is survived by her son, Andy McCord of Raleigh, NC. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Susy McCord Guilford. She is also survived by Susy’s husband, Jay Guilford of Raleigh, NC. Her four grandchildren, Jeff Guilford (Katie) of Carrboro, NC, Elizabeth Guilford Zevin (Max) of New York City, Anderson McCord of Morrisville, NC, and Alex McCord (Nicole) of Raleigh, NC, were a great joy to her.

Born in Italy, Misa carried with her throughout her life the warmth, spirit, and culinary traditions of her homeland. She made her home in Raleigh, North Carolina in 2020, where she spent her final years close to the family she cherished.

Maria Luisa loved nothing more than gathering her family around her table. For many years she fed them well with the flavors of Italy, and those meals — and the love behind them — will not be forgotten. She delighted in her grandchildren and looked forward with joy to the great-grandchildren she dreamed of welcoming.

She will be deeply missed.
