Brett Anthony Hubbard was born into an Army family on August 5, 1954, in Fort Riley, Kansas. He and his family lived in myriad places including Panama and Germany before settling in High Point, North Carolina.

Brett attended the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill and was proud to have paid his own way through college by taking jobs ranging from unloading tractor trailers to delivering newspapers. He graduated with a degree in Political Science in 1977 and wrote as a journalist for the Sanford Herald for seven years before electing to attend law school at Campbell University. Brett clerked at the Supreme Court of North Carolina and went on to practice law for many years in Cary, North Carolina.

Brett was a talented artist, avid gardener, and fabulous home chef. He enjoyed scuba diving, long walks with his dogs, and UNC basketball.

Brett is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Dorothy Hubbard, and siblings Raymond, Jr., Christopher, and Diana Hubbard. He is survived by his sister, Linda Hubbard; wife, Mary Anne Dixon Hubbard; three children, Roz (Alastor) Van Kleeck, Richard Hubbard, and Hannah (Emma) Lavender; and one grandson, Robin Lavender.
