Although he didn't serve in the military, Anthony Holder was a true soldier, living a life of integrity and courage in the face of serious obstacles that tried to thwart him, seemingly at every turn. He studied engineering at Virginia Tech, transferring to the University of Southern California to complete a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. He found a marriage of the practical realm of engineering with his creative abilities by becoming a technical writer for IBM. He first joined IBM in New York and then transferred to their facility in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he lived out the rest of his 91 years.

Tony loved classical music and played the piano for many years. He was well-versed in many kinds of literature and was a true lover of words, spending countless hours tracking down the etymology of words. Although he never met his soul mate nor had children, he was a good friend to many who loved this gentle, intelligent, humorous, good man. He was a true inspiration to all who have severe disabilities to overcome, finding the way to stay positive and hopeful through afflictions life may throw our way. His headstone will display these words: "One of God's good men,"
