Wenfo Witz

Wenfo Witz, a beloved wife, sister, aunt, and grandaunt, passed away on October 2, 2023, in Raleigh, North Carolina, due to ALS. She was 74 years old. Wenfo was born on January 20, 1949, in Jakarta, Indonesia. Both of her parents were well-respected public servants. Her father served as the President of the Jakarta Overseas Chinese Association, and her mother was an active leader in the Jakarta Chinese Women's Association.
Wenfo was the youngest of eight siblings and consistently ranked first in her class during primary school. She later attended the renowned Jakarta Chinese Middle School, Hua Chung. She also possessed exceptional artistic talents, excelling in dance and piano performances both in school and within the Chinese society.
In 1966, she traveled to China with hopes of furthering her studies but was unable to do so due to the cultural revolution. In 1972, she relocated to Hong Kong, where she pursued evening studies and eventually worked as an accountant. She also taught piano and Chinese to Korean senior executives.
During a vacation in Hamburg in 1988, Wenfo was introduced to Wolfgang Witz, who was on a business trip. In December 1990, Wolfgang flew from New York to Paris, then to Hamburg, and married Wenfo in Hong Kong. They hosted a wedding reception in Jakarta, where Wenfo's family resided, and honeymooned in Bali. Their journey continued eastward to Papua, Los Angeles, and back to New York. Wolfgang often told people that he had to fly all around the world to catch his ‘perfect’ bride.
Throughout their marriage, Wenfo wholeheartedly supported Wolfgang in his career as a pen expert. She managed household chores, bookings, and provided care, always standing by his side. A friend once described them as an inseparable pair of lovebirds. A Memorial Service to celebrate Wenfo's life will be held on October 14, 2023, at the City of Oaks Funeral Home in Raleigh, NC.
