Marcia Coggins Misenheimer, beloved mother, daughter, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2024, at the age of 78, surrounded by her loving family.

Marcia was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence & Margie Coggins of Danville, VA. A great sorrow of Marcia’s life was the death of her only son, Matthew John Tierney.

Marcia is also survived by her faithful sister Sharon Scales of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, daughter Karin Tierney Martinsen, stepson Lee Misenheimer, his wife Becky, grandchildren, Noelle and Hadley Broughton of Atlanta, GA and Alex, Aro and Katie Misenheimer. Marcia is also survived by her nieces, Stephanie Willis and Allison Barrow, and her grand-nieces, Kayley Melerski and Ava Willis.

Marcia was born on December 6, 1945, the first of two girls. She graduated from Longwood University in VA with a BS in elementary education and began her 30-year career in teaching in Fairfax County, VA, Lafeyette, IN and Wake County, NC. She committed herself to excellence in teaching and received many awards and honors.

Her years were filled with joy and all that she held dear; family, friends and serving others. She has made a beautiful and meaningful impact on the lives of those who loved her. We have been deeply blessed to love and be loved by Marcia. Her loss leaves us with aching hearts and beautiful memories.

Marica and Bob were faithful and devoted members of First United Methodist Church, Cary, and active members of both the Unity and Wisdom Sunday school classes. Marcia attended Bible school and was a Sunday school teacher. She also helped with many programs connected to the church including, Mighty Mondays, and volunteering at Dorcas Ministries.

Both Marcia and Bob enjoyed traveling extensively, reading, attending the symphony and plays, cooking, volunteering, landscaping and gardening, taking care of her home and being at the beach. She was a lover of West Highland Terrier dogs, flowers and classical music.

A celebration of Marcia's life will be held on April, 18th, at 1pm at First United Methodist Church, Cary. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the NC Alzheimer’s Association or the Dementia Alliance NC, in honor of Marcia's memory.

Marcia touched the lives of countless individuals, leaving behind a legacy of generosity, kindness and compassion, that will continue to inspire us all. May she rest in internal peace, knowing that she was deeply loved and will never be forgotten,

The same laws that apply to the big corporate funeral homes also apply to the modest independently owned firms like ours. All crematories in North Carolina, regardless of who owns them, are inspected annually by the state and must adhere to the same rules and laws.

Immediate Burial

$2497.50

An immediate burial has the same end result as a traditional burial; however, we have eliminated the extra (sometimes unnecessary) services prior to getting to the cemetery. Not everyone wants an open casket for viewing or a limousine for the family. Despite the term immediate, we can move as fast as you need or as slow as you like. This option simply allows you to save money by eliminating some of the fancy extras at the funeral home.

icon
Traditional Funeral

$5866.98

We offer the same traditional funeral services as the big corporately owned funeral homes in the area; however, we cost about half the amount. You might consider a traditional funeral service if your family is looking for an open casket visitation, a traditional church service or a funeral service in the funeral home's chapel. A traditional funeral service can be altered to fit the needs of your family.

Green Burial

$3033.75

This establishment is one of a select number of funeral homes who meet the criteria for providing green funeral service by the Green Burial Council; a tax-exempt, nonprofit organization working to encourage environmentally sustainability in the field of funeral service. Our Green options allow for a funeral to take place without the use of toxic and non-biodegradable materials/chemicals.

Aquamation

$2640.59

As an alternative to traditional cremation, City of Oaks Funeral Home also offers Aquamation. The Aquamation process, often referred to as alkaline hydrolysis, uses a solution of water and potassium hydroxide to facilitate natural decomposition.
