Eleanor Thompson

Eleanor Dalton Thompson, passed away on July 9, 2024, at the age of 87.

Eleanor and her twin brother Frank Dalton were born on November 19, 1936, in Forsyth County to the late Willie Davis Dalton and Sarah Doub Dalton. She grew up on a farm with her Mama, Papa, and 8 siblings. With older brothers serving in WWII and another working as a United Methodist minister, she was guided by three priorities in life; a love for family, God and country.
Eleanor was a member of Union United Methodist Church and taught at Lewisville United Methodist Church Preschool until she retired at 80 years old. She instilled in her students a deep appreciation for nature, and each child knew they were special and well-loved. She was also a beloved babysitter and Sunday School teacher. She spent summers in her blueberry patch and following retirement, she hung up her bucket and moved to Cary to live with her great-grandchildren.
After a stroke in March, Eleanor spent her final months surrounded by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, still finding ways to care for them all. Though her mind and body were failing, her warmth and love were never diminished.

Eleanor was predeceased by her loving spouse, William Ulysses Thompson, her children, Cheryl Lynn Thompson and Bill Thompson, Jr., and her life-long friend Patsy Beroth. She is survived by her grandchildren, Anna Watkins (Patrick), Liz Waddell (Cailen), Jeff Thompson (Rebecca), and Matt Thompson; great-grandchildren, Wyatt Watkins, Parker Watkins, Liam Thompson, and Suwan Na; siblings Frank Dalton, Rosie Burton, and Ida McHargue; and many other friends and relatives who affectionately refer to her as Grandma.

An informal visitation will be held on Monday, July 15th from 3-7pm at the home of Anna and Patrick Watkins. 400 Woodland Ct., Cary NC 27511. Childcare will be provided.

A service will be held at Union United Methodist Church in Lewisville, NC. on Saturday, July 27 at 11am. Children are welcome, even the wiggly and noisy ones, as she loved those well.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Eleanor can be made to the Lewisville United Methodist Preschool.
