Apex, NC
Age 64 — Died 08/01/2024
Garrick (Randy) Starck passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 1, 2024, after a long battle with younger-onset Alzheimer’s disease. His wife, Lisa, and daughters, Sarah and Rachel, were by his side.
Randy was born on October 11, 1959, to Jack and Astor Starck in Hollywood, Florida. The family moved to Raleigh, NC, when Randy was 7 years old. He attended Broughton High School, and after graduating, he served four years in the United States Air Force. During his time in the USAF, he was stationed at Charleston, SC, where he served as crew chief on a C-141 Starlifter. After the USAF, he attended Wake Technical Community College and received his degree in Computer Technology. He went on to build a career in the field of engineering.
Randy was a true outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting, biking and hiking. His favorite outdoor activity was going to the mountains and hiking one of the many beautiful trails. He had many hobbies, his favorite being building and flying remote control airplanes. He had a great love for planes from the time he was a young boy. He was also a big World War II buff. He loved a good black and white WWII movie or book, and his favorite WWII plane was the Spitfire.
Randy also loved spending time with his family and dogs. Although he had the opportunity to do a lot of traveling with work, there was no place he loved more than home. Being at home with his family and his dogs was his happiness and joy.
Randy was preceded in death by his mother Astor Mae Starck in 2014. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Lisa, and his two daughters, Sarah (Sidd) and Rachel; his sister Sandra Gove of Raleigh; his father Jack Starck of Raleigh; his nephew Ian Gove of Wilmington; and his niece Emily Gove Lekić (Hamid) of New York.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association to help fight this horrible disease, or make a donation to your favorite charity in honor of Randy.
A celebration of life is being planned.
