Obituary
Linda Hornish Brady

Morrisville, North Carolina

Age 85.
Died 10/23/2024.

Linda Hornish Brady
Our beloved wife, mother, sister and dear friend Linda Brady passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 23, 2024.

The daughter of the late Ralph and Helen Hornish, Linda was born in Orange, New Jersey, raised in West Orange and moved to Sparta in 1967. She later lived in North Carolina to be close to her daughter.

All who were lucky to have Linda in their life knew her infectious passion for life, laughs and a good glass of wine. She loved her family and friends deeply and treasured her life with her husband, of just days away from their 63rd anniversary, Marty Brady.

Linda attended Marylawn of the Oranges Academy, Mount St. Dominic Academy, and Seton Hall University, where she was crowned Miss Seton Hall in 1959.

Linda started her career as a school teacher. Her love for teaching was evident when she invited every one of her 3rd grade students to attend her wedding in 1961 – and her entire class attended. A testament to the love her students had for her and she for them.

Linda was extremely active in her community and had many passions, all which brought her great joy. Linda worked with friends to start “Townhall”, a professional lecture series in Sparta, with notable speakers of the arts, politics and government. She co-founded the Sussex County branch of the March of Dimes, spearheading numerous fundraising walks and events. She headed up the County’s Big Brothers & Big Sisters program and later was the Executive Director of the YMCA. Linda was a co-founder of the Honey Invitational Golf Championship, with her life-long friend Mary Lou McCutcheon. She ran golf clinics at the Lake Mohawk Golf Club and organized Ski Club trips to local mountains. She worked for the County’s department of Health and Senior Services and later in her career was a successful realtor.

Linda was an advocate of the arts and served many years on the Board of the Sussex County Arts Council. She was very active in Cornerstone Playhouse as an actor, director and producer of dozens of productions. Linda also enjoyed long lunches and playing mahjong with her friends at the Lake Mohawk Golf Club. She was also a former member of the Lake Mohawk Country Club.

Married in 1961, Linda, with her husband, moved to Sparta in 1967 and enjoyed many decades with life-long friends in the tight-knit community of Lake Mohawk. Linda’s friends were part of her family. She loved them deeply. Later in her life when she moved to North Carolina, a great joy in her life was continuing her friendships with frequent calls back home.

Linda is survived by her husband Marty, her son Glenn, son-in-law Vincent, daughter Devon, her brother Rudy Hornish and her extended family.

Our Promise

Apples to Apples

Just like all other licensed funeral homes in North Carolina, City of Oaks Cremation, LLC is regulated by the NC Board of Funeral Service.

The same laws that apply to the big corporate funeral homes also apply to the modest independently owned firms like ours. All crematories in North Carolina, regardless of who owns them, are inspected annually by the state and must adhere to the same rules and laws.

Immediate Burial

$2497.50

An immediate burial has the same end result as a traditional burial; however, we have eliminated the extra (sometimes unnecessary) services prior to getting to the cemetery. Not everyone wants an open casket for viewing or a limousine for the family. Despite the term immediate, we can move as fast as you need or as slow as you like. This option simply allows you to save money by eliminating some of the fancy extras at the funeral home.

Cremation with Visitation

$1917.84

City of Oaks Funeral Home and Cremation provides an affordable cremation option with onsite visitation. Nobody likes surprise costs added in at the last minute. We guarantee you will not find any hidden charges here. Simple, affordable and reliable.

Traditional Funeral

$6081.48

We offer the same traditional funeral services as the big corporately owned funeral homes in the area; however, we cost about half the amount. A traditional funeral service can be altered to fit the needs of your family.

Green Burial

$3033.75

This establishment is one of a select number of funeral homes who meet the criteria for providing green funeral service by the Green Burial Council; a tax-exempt, nonprofit organization working to encourage environmentally sustainability in the field of funeral service. Our Green options allow for a funeral to take place without the use of toxic and non-biodegradable materials/chemicals.

Aquamation

$2640.59

As an alternative to traditional cremation, City of Oaks Funeral Home also offers Aquamation. The Aquamation process, often referred to as alkaline hydrolysis, uses a solution of water and potassium hydroxide to facilitate natural decomposition.
