Cleo Carter Bunn

Wendell, North Carolina – Cleo Nell Carter Moody Bunn, 94, passed away at WakeMed Hospital on April 9, 2025 surrounded by her family. She was born in Wake County on April 4, 1931. Cleo was the youngest/last of eleven children born to the late Joe Bertie Carter and Rosa Gay Carter.
Cleo was a fiercely independent woman with great strength, immeasurable patience, and strong values. She grew up on the family farm in Wake County with her siblings and worked hard. She was a strong role model for her family, teaching each to be self-reliant and independent.
Following the birth of her first grandchild, Cleo retired from her job at Square D to assume another role...to care for and spend time with her grandchildren, and later her great grandchildren. Affectionately being called “Granny Bunn” was one of her proudest and her most cherished roles. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, immensely....with all her heart and was in attendance at every performance, event, and milestone throughout their lives.
Cleo enjoyed cooking and gathering with family for holidays, birthdays, special occasions, or just any time to share a good meal, delicious desserts, and fellowship together.
Even at the age of 94 as her health began to limit her mobility, her mind was keen. Cleo was sharp with her computer skills and enjoyed exploring new recipes, watching cooking videos, keeping in touch with friends and family via email, and staying current with the latest news. She also enjoyed viewing posts by her extended family and friends on social media (Facebook).
Cleo is survived by her daughters: Shelby Moody Chalk (Ray) and Melody Celeste Moody Hocutt (Trey); her granddaughters: Elizabeth Ann Hocutt Robertson (Christopher) and Brittany Michelle Hocutt Lingle (William); her great grandchildren: Paige Elizabeth Robertson and Jayce Paul Robertson; her loving cats: Thelma and Louise.
In addition to her parents, Cleo was preceded in death by her husbands: Dwight Lee Moody, Sr. and Mack Bunn; her sons: Dwight Lee Moody, Jr. and Harold Dexter Moody; her sisters: Margaret Jeffreys, Louise Starnes, Pearl Wood, Winnie Houchin, Pauline Bracy, and Etherlene Pearce; and her brothers: John, Joe, Cecil, and Clifton Carter.
There will be a private graveside service for the immediate family.
