Reta Von Thun

April 18, 1930 – June 8, 2025

Reta was born in New York City on April 18, 1930. She is preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Grant (1900–1976), her father, Douglas Grant (1894–1993), and her eldest son, Dean White (1951–2014). She is survived by ten children: Dolly White, Doug White, David White, Donnie White, Danny White, Mike White, Ginny Wisinger, Bobbie Pendley, Frances Strickland, and Nancy Ausherman. She also leaves behind 20 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Reta loved horses and the great outdoors. In her younger years, she owned horses and enjoyed trail riding while living in Southern Arizona. She found peace in nature and delight in quiet moments, often with a good book in hand or while watching her favorite classic Westerns.
Reta passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at the age of 95, at UNC Rex Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center, where she received excellent and compassionate care for the past five years.

Her strength, independence, and love for her family defined her life. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

A private family service will be held at Oakdale Cemetery in Wilmington, NC on Saturday, June 21, 2025.
