Bobby Ray Maines

Bobby Ray Maines passed away peacefully at home on the morning of September 22, 2025. Born on August 31, 1943, in Sparta, NC, Bobby lived his life dedicated to family, friends, and church.
Bobby was a loving, kind, and compassionate man, with a strong belief in his faith. He was a dedicated husband and father who lived his life to help others and he gave 110% of his time to his loving family. As a deacon in his church, he took the time to help his church family and loved his trips with the youth group. Bobby always had a kind word for everyone he met and accepted people for who they are. He was a fun loving, deeply caring person who touched many lives.
Bobby is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Shirley Maines; his children, Sandra DeBoard, Debbra Butts and her husband Martin, Bobby Maines, Jr, and Charles Maines; his stepchildren, Mary Martin, Robert Martin, Randall Martin, Margaret Norwood, and Jennifer Raisig and her husband Chris; as well as 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Dale Maines and wife Laura, Dean Maines, and Donald Maines and wife Freida, and his sister Mary Herrington and husband Chuck. Bobby was also blessed with an extended family and wide network of friends, all of whom he loved dearly.
Bobby will be remembered for his loving nature, gentle soul, and uncanny ability to soothe a baby. The grandkids love their PawPaw! A diehard UNC fan, he cheered them on whether they would win or lose. When asked to describe Bobby in one word, his family responded with caring, generous, honorable, proud, pure, accepting, kind, heart (of gold), patience, forgiveness, and, of course, love. He will also be fondly remembered everytime we need ice for a family gathering! There will always be a special place in our hearts for his kind soul.
A celebration of life will be held at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church, located at 4109 Guess Rd, Durham, NC, on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rose of Sharon Baptist Church.
John 14
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where i am, there ye may be also.
