Benjamin C. Weatherford, Jr.

Benjamin C. Weatherford, Jr., of Raleigh, passed away peacefully at home during the night on October 10, 2025. He would have celebrated his 82nd birthday on November 5.
Ben had Parkinson’s disease and was eventually confined to his home for the past five years. In January 2022, after suffering two successive strokes, he returned home from the hospital bedridden. A gentle and quiet man, his one wish was to remain at home and not in a healthcare facility. His devoted wife, Sandra, lovingly fulfilled that wish, serving as his full-time caregiver so he could remain in the comfort of home.
The Weatherfords' recently moved from their longtime residence of 20 years on Ridge Road in Raleigh to a smaller home, making it easier for Sandra to continue providing around-the-clock care.
Ben is survived by his wife of 33 years, Sandra Glover Weatherford; his son, Bryan Weatherford, wife Emily, and granddaughter Lily, all of Raleigh.
Originally from Crewe, Virginia, Ben attended Hampden-Sydney College before moving to Raleigh. Prior to his move, he taught history, loved all sports, coached girls’ basketball, and taught tennis as well.
He especially loved the North Carolina beaches and treasured the frequent family trips made there over the years.
The family would like to thank Transitions Life Care Hospice for their compassionate care in keeping Ben comfortable as he grew weaker. Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Parkinson’s Foundation, American Stroke Association, American Diabetes Association, or the SPCA.
