Rita Anne Petelle

October 27, 1947 – May 15, 2023

Rita Anne Petelle, 75, passed away peacefully in her home during the early hours of the morning on May 15, 2023, in Raleigh, NC. She died after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.

Rita was born on October 27, 1947, in Ludlow, MA to Alfred Lopes and Alice Alves Lopes. Rita married her beloved husband, John Richards Petelle on April 19, 1969, at Lady of Fatima Church in Ludlow, MA. They raised their children with love and devotion and settled in Raleigh, NC in 1981.

Rita was known for her gentle nature and bright smile. She had numerous friends and enjoyed entertaining and hosting gatherings for her loved ones and those dear to her heart. Rita worked for several years in different companies as well as 16 years at Kmart where she was a point of sales specialist in the office. Her hobbies included cooking, doing puzzles, and reading books. She loved the beach and enjoyed watching science fiction movies. Rita was a wonderful mother and loving grandmother who protected and valued family.

Rita is preceded in death by her mother Alice Alves Lopes and her father Alfred Lopes. She is remembered by her husband, John Richards Petelle; her daughter Christina and her husband Joseph; her daughter Aimee; six grandchildren: Isabella Delaney Deatherage, Kayla Morgan Deatherage, Sarah Marie Angott, Alexander Alton Norris, Andrew John Norris, and Olivia Paige Norris as well as one great-grandson, Riley Gerald Fraser.
