Charlotte S. Thompson, a native of Kentucky and long-time resident of Durham, North Carolina, passed away surrounded by the love of her family.
A proud graduate of the University of Kentucky School of Business, Class of 1951, Charlotte carried with her throughout life the strong values of faith, education, service, and dedication.
In 1967, Charlotte moved to Durham when her beloved husband, Frank Thompson, accepted the position of News Director at WTVD Channel 11. Durham quickly became home, and Charlotte devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family and community. For more than two decades, she served as an educator in the Durham Public School System, touching the lives of countless students with her patience, wisdom, and unwavering kindness.
Known to all as one of the most caring and compassionate people one could ever meet, Charlotte had a gift for making others feel valued and loved. She was a faithful member of Parkwood United Methodist Church for over 55 years, where her presence, service, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed.
Charlotte was a devoted wife and loving mother of three. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Thompson, in 1984. She is survived by her daughter, Marianna Kilbride of New Canaan, Connecticut, and her husband Rick and children Anna, Elizabeth, and Charlotte; her son John Thompson of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and his wife Laura and children Andrew, Jackson, and Walker; and her son David Thompson of Durham.
Charlotte’s legacy of kindness, faith, and devotion to family will live on through the many lives she touched. She will be remembered for her generous heart, her understated strength, and the deep love she shared with family and friends.

City of Oaks Funeral Home and Cremation provides an affordable cremation with a private family viewing. A private family viewing allows up to 10 immediate family members or friends to spend time with a loved one when a public visitation is not preferred.

An immediate burial has the same end result as a traditional burial; however, we have eliminated the extra (sometimes unnecessary) services prior to getting to the cemetery. Not everyone wants an open casket for viewing or a limousine for the family. Despite the term immediate, we can move as fast as you need or as slow as you like. This option simply allows you to save money by eliminating some of the fancy extras at the funeral home.

You might consider a traditional funeral service if your family is looking for an open casket visitation, a traditional church service or a funeral service in the funeral home's chapel.
