James William Grasmick passed away in his North Carolina home on March 2, 2026, after a long illness. He is survived by his wife Aretta Golk Grasmick, daughter Michelle Hope Carmichael of Knightdale, NC and son, James William Grasmick of New Smyrna Beach, Florida. He is also survived by his sisters Susi Grasmick Guinn (Fred) and Linda Grasmick of New Oxford, PA, his brother Christopher Grasmick of Gettysburg, PA, 2 nieces and a nephew.

Jim was born in Pittsburgh, PA in 1950 to Dr. Albert L Grasmick and Jane Britton Grasmick (Jane Michael). The Grasmick family moved to New Oxford, PA in 1957 and Jim graduated from New Oxford High School in 1968. He had been active in the band as a saxophonist and as the student trainer for the basketball team. After earning his associate’s degree from Florida’s Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Jim worked for the Boeing Corporation at the Kennedy Space Center/ Cape Canaveral, where he worked on space program projects such as the construction of a lunar module and an early space shuttle. He later worked for Daytona Aircraft Services performing maintenance and building engines on private aircraft until his retirement, when he and wife Aretta moved to North Carolina. Jim was an avid car enthusiast and enjoyed trap shooting and billiards in his spare time.

While there will be no public viewing or memorial services, in lieu of flowers, friends are invited to make a contribution to Duke HomeCare and Hospice (www.givetodukeathome.org).
