In Loving Memory of

Andrew James Minter

Raleigh
,
North Carolina
Died:
April 24, 2026

Drew, or Andy, depending on who you were and/or when you met him, passed in the early morning hours of Friday, April 24th 2026 from Small Cell Lung Cancer at home with his partner and best friend, Michael D Mobley, taking care of him.

Drew was born in Pennsylvania to Jimmie Minter and Eugenia Minter way back in the dark ages of 1964. He was the youngest of five children; one sister, Becky, and 3 brothers, Doug, Charles and Craig. They moved around a little bit before the family settled in Florence, SC.

With the exception of a stint in the navy for about 6 years, Drew lived and worked in Florence until 1997 when he decided to move to Raleigh. Drew needed a roommate and knew that Michael was looking to get out and away from his little corner of Southeastern NC, so he asked him if he would like to move to Raleigh and share a place. Michael said yes. In the summer of 1997, they moved in to a passable duplex and lived there for a year. After that, they moved to an apartment that has since been torn down and replaced by a CVS. Over the course of a few years, things evolved from roommates to friends to more. In February of 2000, they both signed their lives away for 30 years and purchased a house that they made a home for 26 years. The same home Drew passed away in -- all of a sudden it was 2026, and they had been committed partners for 28 years.

I, Michael, am not a writer. All I know is that I wanted to tell a story that was a little different from the usual obituary.

Please note that there will not be a service. If you would like to do something to remember Drew by then please make a donation to a reputable cat rescue (as he loved cats), a veteran's organization (he was a navy veteran), a hospice (the hospice he was in was pretty great for the most part) or towards cancer research (he lived with and died from Small Cell Lung Cancer).
