Betty Dorn Monsees, 85, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2026.

Born September 16, 1940, in White Plains, New York, Betty was the daughter of Howard and Edna Dorn. She graduated from Rome Free Academy in Rome, New York, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Education from Plattsburgh State University in 1962. Betty devoted many years of her nursing career to serving children with special needs in the public school system.

On July 6, 1963, Betty married her college sweetheart and the love of her life, Alan Henry Monsees. Together, they created a life rooted in love, adventure, and family. During Alan’s Air Force career, their travels and assignments took them to Texas, California, North Carolina, Arizona, Florida, Alaska, and New Mexico before they made their home in Cary, North Carolina. No matter where life took them, Betty formed enduring friendships and appreciated the distinctive beauty of each new home.

Family meant everything to Betty. She treasured visits, celebrations, and everyday moments shared with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alan, in 2005.
She is survived by her daughter, Allison Florance (Wade); sons, AJ Monsees (Amy) and Geoff Monsees (Julie); grandchildren, Rachel Harwood (Russ), Hayley Sturdivant (Aaron), Evan Monsees, and Lindsey Doidge (Matt); and great-grandchildren, Whitley, Nolan, Charlie Rae, and Hal.

Betty enjoyed reading, sewing, traveling, four-wheeling in a Jeep, and RVing. She found particular happiness outdoors, especially in the mountains and near the water. A child of God, she was an active member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Cary. Her involvement included small groups, Stephen Ministry, Vacation Bible School, choir-spouse activities, and other areas of church life. She also gave generously of her time at Dorcas Thrift Shop (NeighborUp) in Cary.

Gentle, kind, compassionate, and generous, Betty was a thoughtful listener and a loyal friend. Her faith, quiet strength, and caring spirit will remain a lasting gift to all who knew and loved her.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday August 22, 2026, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 600 Walnut Street, Cary, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty’s memory to NeighborUp of Cary or to the charity of one’s choice.
