In Loving Memory of

Col. Alfonso A. Madarang Jr. Dr.

Sanford

North Carolina
Died:
January 13, 2026

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Alfonso A. Madarang Jr.

The eldest of seven children, Alfonso “Pons” Madarang was born on November 21, 1942, and died peacefully at 83 years old on January 13, 2026 surrounded by most of his surviving siblings.

Pons, a man defined by his discipline and intelligence, followed his father’s footsteps by becoming a physician and embracing medicine as an Anesthesiologist.

He proudly served in the US Airforce as a Reserved National Guard, where he attained the rank of Colonel. He managed a group of medical personnel known as “Top Knife,” often likened to the elite “Top Gun” version.

Driven by a strong interest of sharing his knowledge about investments and preparation for retirement, he strongly instilled to his nephews and nieces, sometimes difficult, tough and challenging lessons.

Beyond his medical and national guard achievements, Pons found joy in arts and in the company of dogs, particularly chihuahuas. He enjoyed playing the piano and attending opera/musicals.

Pons was a devoted provider and despite his complex nature, he was still a pillar to his immediate and extended family. “This is how I love...Tough Love...but it's still love" as he frequently reminded us.

Pons is now reunited resting in peace with his beloved first wife Ampy, his mom and dad, and his siblings Ted and Berning.

He is survived by his other siblings: Virginia, Orlando, Tessie, and Pennie, along with his extended family and dear friends, who will forever cherish his memory.

We extend our heartfelt sympathies to all who mourn his passing.
