With profound sadness and immeasurable love for the life she lived, we announce the passing of Corinne "Cori" Jolette Lawyer, who passed away on August 5, 2026. Cori was a woman of unwavering faith, remarkable strength, and boundless compassion whose love for her family and friends touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Born in Cobleskill, New York, on July 10, 1978, Cori graduated from Middleburgh Central School before earning her Bachelor's degree from East Carolina University. Throughout her life, she embraced every challenge with determination and believed that with faith, hard work, and perseverance, anything was possible.
Above all else, Cori was a loving and devoted mother to her two children, Jaxon Fredley and Riley Mayo, who were the center of her world. Every decision she made and every sacrifice she endured was driven by her unconditional love for them. They were her greatest joy, her proudest accomplishment, and the reason behind her tireless determination.
A woman of deep faith, Cori found her strength through Christ. Her unwavering faith was the foundation of her life, guiding the way she loved, served, worked, and cared for others. Even through life's greatest challenges, she faced each day with courage, humility, and grace.
Cori was one of the hardest-working people anyone could ever know. Whether she was transforming a space through her exceptional construction, landscaping, and tiling skills or building a successful cleaning service through honesty and dedication, she poured her heart into everything she did. She had an incredible ability to create beauty wherever she went and took great pride in helping others through her work.
She found peace and happiness outdoors. Cori loved nature, enjoyed getting her hands in the earth, and had a special talent for growing plants and creating beautiful outdoor spaces. She also had a deep compassion for animals and a gentle heart that extended to every living creature.
Her generosity reached far beyond her work. Cori never hesitated to open her home to someone in need, offering not only shelter but kindness, encouragement, and hope. She believed everyone deserved compassion and a second chance. She was also a passionate advocate for programs that empower women affected by domestic violence and mental health challenges. Her willingness to lift others up will remain an inspiration to all who knew her.
Cori was preceded in death by her beloved father, Richard Alan Lawyer, as well as her maternal and paternal grandparents.
She leaves behind her beloved children, Jaxon Fredley and Riley Mayo; her loving mother, Kathleen Michel-Hayes; her cherished sister, Tara Lawyer, and brother-in-law, Jason Trower; Joseph "Joe" Fredley, Jaxon’s father; along with many other family members, dear friends, and loved ones who will forever cherish her memory.
Although her time with us was far too short, Cori leaves behind a legacy of faith, resilience, generosity, hard work, and unconditional love. She will be remembered for her beautiful heart, her unwavering willingness to help others, and the immeasurable love she had for her children.
A Celebration of Life honoring Cori with Pastor Craig Phelps officiating will be held at Gorman Baptist Church in Durham, North Carolina, on August 29, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be livestreamed and can be viewed at the following link: https://boxcast.tv/view/cori-lawyer-celebration-of-life-ubm7chgamt0rgzdgtpbs. A fellowship potluck meal will be held in the Family Life Center following the service.
