With profound sadness and broken hearts, our family announces the sudden passing of Dana Eugene Query. Dana left us unexpectedly, leaving behind a family who is heartbroken and still learning how to imagine life without him.

Dana was many things: a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, brother, uncle, grandfather, road tripper, big-rig driver, Harley rider, and the person everyone seemed to call when something needed fixing. Above all, Dana was a family man. He loved his wife, Linda, fiercely and completely. After 48 years of marriage, their love remained something special to everyone who knew them.

Dana had a way of making an impression wherever he went. He was known for his calm demeanor, ability to fix nearly anything, and his knack for having exactly the right thing to say at exactly the right time. In many ways, he was the family’s own human “fortune cookie,” always ready with a one-liner, a piece of advice, or a simple life lesson. His words were often brief and sometimes funny, but they had a way of staying with you. Sometimes, though, his advice would go on a little longer, and we would lovingly tell him to “land the plane.” Long after he finished speaking, you might find yourself thinking, Dad was right.

He could fix a truck, repair something around the house, troubleshoot a problem, or help someone navigate the complicated parts of life. He was the person his family turned to when they needed an answer, a little perspective, or simply someone who would calmly say, “It’ll be alright.” His steady presence made the people around him feel safe. He was also an amazing father-in-law, loving and welcoming his children’s spouses as part of his own family.

Dana’s greatest joy, however, was being a Papa. His 10 grandchildren absolutely idolized him, and he adored every one of them. Being Papa was one of the most important roles of his life, and the love between him and his grandchildren was unmistakable. He created memories, shared his wisdom, made them laugh, and gave them the kind of unconditional love they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.

Dana lived a life that reflected who he was: strong, hardworking, adventurous, and devoted to the people he loved. He drove big rigs, rode Harley-Davidsons, and never backed down from a problem that needed solving. But his greatest accomplishment was the family he built and the love he gave them.

In one of the most fitting final moments of his life, Dana spent his last day doing what he had always done—taking care of his family. He lovingly arranged flowers for Linda, taking his time to make sure they were just right. It was such a simple gesture, but it captured Dana perfectly: even in the smallest things, he was thinking about the people he loved.

Dana is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Linda Query; his children, Karin Vince Barone; Tim Vince and his spouse, Tonya Vince; Dana Query Stubbs and her spouse, Sam Stubbs; and Erin Query Martinez and her spouse, Louie Martinez; his sister, Carol Query Baker and her husband, Steve Baker; several nieces and nephews; and his 10 grandchildren, Ava Barone, Chloe Barone, Aiden Vince, Logan Vince, Colin Vince, Abbey Stubbs, Jack Stubbs, Brianna Martinez, Sierra Martinez, and Joshua  Martinez.

We love you, Dad. We love you, Papa. Until we meet again.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 17, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Sunset Lake Lodge, 5664 Sunset Lake Road, Holly Springs, NC 27540.
