Douglas Wayne Howard February 16, 1953 – September 3, 2026 Douglas Wayne Howard, 73, passed away peacefully at home on September 3, 2026. Born on February 16, 1953, in Mooresville, North Carolina, Douglas lived a life marked by love, loyalty, laughter, and devotion to his family and friends. He will be remembered for his kind heart, steady presence, and the countless ways he enriched the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. Doug's greatest blessing was his family. He shared 38 years of love, partnership, and adventure with his spouse, Pamela Lynn Brown. Together they built a life grounded in friendship, commitment, and cherished memories. He was a proud father to his daughter, Devon, and his son, Logan, whose accomplishments brought him endless joy. Doug had a passion for baseball that lasted a lifetime. He loved not only watching the game but also coaching travel baseball, where he invested countless hours encouraging young players and teaching lessons that went far beyond the field. He was a student of history, an enthusiastic traveler, and someone who genuinely appreciated life's simple pleasures. Some of Doug's happiest days were spent camping in the Smoky Mountains, watching fireworks on the beach, sitting in the stands at any ballpark, or cheering on his beloved Tar Heels. He treasured time spent with his lifelong friends, where stories grew taller with every telling (and every cocktail) and laughter always came easily. Whether on a ball field, around a campfire, or among friends and family, Doug had a way of making every moment a little more memorable. Doug is survived by his beloved spouse of 38 years, Pamela Lynn Brown; his daughter, Bailey Devon Howard; and his son, Dr. Riley Logan Howard. He was preceded in death by his father, E. Y. Howard; his mother, Edna Mae Howard; his sister, Judith Church and her husband, Buddy Church; and his brother, Stephen Howard. Those who knew Douglas will remember his sense of humor, his loyalty, and his ability to make every gathering a little more enjoyable. He believed life was meant to be lived fully, surrounded by family, friends, and the simple pleasures that create lasting memories. While our hearts are broken by his loss, we are grateful for every memory, every lesson, and every moment we were fortunate enough to share with him. Doug's story lives on in the family he cherished, the friends he loved, and the countless lives he touched along the way. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered. ❤️
