Frederick Marks
Frederick Gerald Marks went peacefully to his heavenly home on February 5, 2026. Fred was born on August 31, 1944, to the Rev. Ellis L. and Myrtle Greene Marks. He lived a life marked by faith, service, and deep devotion to his family.
Fred was married to the love of his life, Sue Davis Marks. Together they built a marriage rooted in commitment and shared faith that spanned more than 57 years. He was a proud and loving father to his two children, Brian Marks (Amber) of High Point, NC, and Beth Marks Avent (Noel) of Raleigh, NC. His greatest joy was being “Poppa” to his precious grandchildren, Kinsey Avent, Drew Marks, and Rylan Marks, whom he adored beyond measure.
Fred was a proud graduate of Campbell University and the Medical University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy, where his dedication to his profession was later recognized when he was honored as a Golden Graduate. He served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1970-72 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
Fred and Sue lived in Monroe, NC for 37 years, where they were faithful members of Oakland Baptist Church. Fred sang in the church choir and served as a deacon, quietly and faithfully living out his Christian faith. He was also an active member of Civitan Club eager to serve his community.
In 2015, Fred and Sue retired to Fuquay-Varina, NC, to be closer to their children and grandchildren. They joined Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church where he worked in the Community Garden and other organizations as his health allowed. Fred loved being outdoors whether it be gardening, fishing, filling his birdhouses, enjoying the views of the Blue Ridge Parkway or just walking his grand-dog (Friday) while visiting with neighbors. Fred was an avid UNC fan and never missed a chance to root for his Tar Heels!
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. Ellis and Myrtle Marks; his brother, Lazelle Marks; and his sister-in-law, Judy Marks. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sue; his children and grandchildren; his devoted sisters, Sylvia Marks of Indian Trail, NC, and Janet Marks Breedlove of Durham, NC; and many cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Fred will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father and Poppa, a man of faith, and a gentle servant to others. His legacy of love, integrity, and quiet strength lives on in all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church, 100 S. Judd Parkway SE, Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526. Interment in the columbarium and a brief visitation with the family will immediately follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Transitions LifeCare (Hospice) of Raleigh, NC or Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church.
